Are 1 in 2 Job Seekers Missing Your Jobs Because You?re Missing Mobile?
According to a Glassdoor survey released today on the state of mobile job search, job seekers are increasingly using mobile in their job search efforts. Nine in 10 (89%) job seekers report they’re likely to use a mobile device during their job search in the next 12 months. That’s up seven percentage points (82%) from just nine months ago. Even more telling, 45% of job seekers say they use their mobile device specifically to search for jobs at least once a day, a number that is also up from nine months ago.
That’s all great news if you’ve mobile-optimized your career channels.
If you haven’t, you may be losing out on qualified candidates applying to your jobs. One in two (49%) job seekers say it’s difficult to apply to jobs via their mobile device. In a competitive talent market, employers and HR pros need to focus now more than ever on making it easier for prospective talent to apply to their jobs via mobile.
This trend is only going to continue. In the next 12 months, three in four (75%) job seekers are likely to search for jobs via their mobile, up three percentage points (72%) from August 2013. More importantly, just 44% are likely to apply to jobs via their mobile, highlighting a “mobile gap” between job search and job applications.
Ryan Aylward, Glassdoor chief technology officer says, “Now is the time employers, HR professionals and ATS providers need to take a close look at their mobile web presence. Specifically, they need to ensure their careers page and job listings are mobile optimized or they risk losing top talent. Employers that prioritize making it easier for prospective talent to apply to their job listings via mobile will have a clear advantage when it comes to winning the war on talent.”
So, how can HR ensure their organization’s careers site is mobile optimized? Consider these three steps:
1. Determine who manages your online careers site
2. Ask about your careers site becoming ‘responsive’ (This provides a similar user experience across all platforms, including desktop, mobile and tablet)
3. Make sure job applicants can successfully apply to jobs via mobile
